11 - WSDL 1.1 Introduction

The Web Service Description Language is an XML based language with the purpose to describe network services as a group of endpoints that operate on reception of messages that can contain document-oriented or procedure-oriented information.

It consists of the definition of multiple operations and messages described in an abstract manner, these operations and messages are bound to a one concrete network protocol and a message format in order to define an endpoint, which in turns define the web service.
